We all experience anxiety at times of high stress, and in fact, anxiety can be beneficial in some cases as it alerts us to be cautious. For some people, anxiety can become overwhelming, causing excessive worry, lack of sleep, paranoia and/or panic attacks. Anxiety can manifest in a variety of troublesome behaviors and symptoms, and therefore there are many anxiety “disorders” recognized by medical and mental health professionals. Post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social phobia, and panic disorder to name a few. Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental disorders experienced in the United States.
At Peaceful Solutions Counseling, we use Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for treating the thoughts and behaviors related to anxiety. On a deeper level, understanding the origin of the anxiety and addressing underlying issues that helped create the anxious behaviors are explored and resolved using Transactional Analysis and other methods. If you or a loved one is experiencing anxiety that is causing problems in your day to day life and it doesn’t seem to be resolving on its own, you should consider treatment. Anxiety is very treatable.
